Emily learns that controlling her thoughts is key with the help of the Shimmer, Pugly, an oddity in his clan, and his jiggly-wiggly sidekick Elvis.But in crossing over, Emily alerts Admonai of the Shadows, shape-shifter, ruler of the beak-faced monkey, and controller of Silenkis (who can access the world of people via his Circles of Influence,) that she has awoken.When Jessica, a newbie, joins them at school, things get more complicated- the beak-faced monkey fails his task, and so Rupert, a sometimes repentant drunkard, disowned father of Jessica and influenced by Silenkis’s Circles of Influence, is called in to assist the Shadows.
